Need Service? Here are some current sites:
Asbury Tower Senior Friend:
Develop individual friendships with senior citizens or assist with group activities at Asbury Towers retirement home and nursing facilities. Service times vary.
Comprehensive Services:
Build relationships with individuals with disabilities through art activities, spending time together, and assisting the staff with other tasks.
Humane Society of Putnam County and Rescued Treasures:
Support our local animal shelter by helping with various tasks, including cleaning and interacting with animals. Or working at the shelter’s thrift store.

Putnam County Museum:
Join our efforts to collect, preserve, and interpret the natural, historical and cultural heritage of the county. There are numerous opportunities for volunteering, including indexing, research, and community engagement.
Greencastle Presbyterian Church/ SAWs:
Work with the team leader and ramp coordinator to construct ramps for individuals and families facing accessibility limitations to their home. The team typically does pre-construction work, designing, ramp attachment and various other tasks.
Central Elementary School:
Work with students in need of a little extra care, whether it is one-on-one lesson help, or just providing a comforting relationship where the child can ask for help if they are struggling.
Deer Meadow Elementary:
Work with students who need support with school and overall, help teachers maintain the classroom and keep up on tasks, like printing and copying, and aid in organizing and prepping classes for teachers and students.
TZ Spanish Enrichment Program:
Expose elementary school students to basic Spanish language skills. Work with 2nd graders at Ridpath Primary School or 3rd-5th graders at Tzouanakis Elementary School.
EDGE 21:
Communicate with the community, board, and schools on information and update relevant to the program. Also help build a coalition to support 21st century scholars.
Greencastle Middle School:
Help middle school students use the Fusion 360 design software program, assist in operating machinery and in the woodshop, and helping maintain the class tasks for the teacher.
Greencastle Middle School Media Center (Library):
Library assistants aid librarian operation of a library. Their primary duties include helping students locate books, checking books in and out and shelving books according to their categorization.
Kids Hope:
Mentoring a student who needs some extra love, support and encouragement. The mentoring time can vary and is truly focused on relationship building between the mentor and mentee. This can include playing games together, sharing lunch, talking, listening and just showing up every week. (OPENINGS NEXT FALL SEMESTER)
Isaiah 117 House:
Help maintain the technological and media facing side of Isaiah 117! the House is looking for individuals to aid in social media maintenance, grant research and writing, and administrative work to help the process of entering foster care start safe and smooth for kids.
Greencastle League of Women Voters:
Help advocate for the events through social media, website maintenance, and programs. LWV needs helps with media and keeping the community up to date on current policies, elections, information and opportunity for involvement and voting.
Purdue Extension:
Help curate program that offers workshops for kids interested in technology, programing, robotics and much more. If you have previous experience with similar topics, this service site is perfect for you! Purdue Extension has numerous opportunities (starting in 2024) to engage with students and families in Putnam County.

Bonner Scholar

BONNER PROGRAM VISION
In 1993 DePauw University became one of the first Bonner Scholar Program schools and is now one of 24 in the US. The Bonner Scholar Program works to support students to attend college and to be active and involved in community service while in school.

The Bonner Program's vision is to uplift communities through engaging students in service and civic involvement throughout college campuses across the country. It is our hope that the mobilization of students, faculty, and staff across these institutions can provide a collaborative and community-driven way to ensuring social justice and promoting the rebuilding of our communities. The Bonner Scholar Program is supported by the Corella and Bertram F. Bonner Foundation.

Stone Scholar
BACKGROUND
The Jane and David Stone First Year Civic Leadership Program seeks to build relationships among students interested in community service and connect them with others who have similar interests, academic pursuits and professional goals during the course of their first year at DePauw. Over the course of their first year, students who apply to and are accepted into this program will engage in the following activities, which promote community service, social justice, philanthropy and civic engagement.

Requirements
Stone Scholars are required to have at least 4 approved service hours every month.

Community Ride
DRIVING STUDENTS TO SERVICE!
The Hartman Center Community Ride Program provides transportation for DePauw students volunteering in the community. To arrange transportation to and from your service site, please reach out to us!

There is limited availability so make sure you are checking the schedule and arriving on time!

DePauw Service
DePauw Service connects any DePauw student who wants to incorporate service into their educational experience to various opportunities focused on: mentoring and tutoring local youth, educational enrichment, relationship building, and other community initiatives throughout Putnam County.
DEPAUW SERVICE STUDENT COORDINATORS
Each DePauw Service site has designated student leaders who manage the program, volunteers, and communication with the community partner. Our student leaders are dedicated to engaging our campus with the surrounding community, and can help students take all the necessary steps to start volunteering. Interested in finding out more?
